Okay, this is gonna be a super quick one, because I have talked about Elena’s taco shop in a previous post. I just wanted to share the fact that they have Carne Asada Fries and they’re absolutely amazing. I feel like I should be drunk to eat them because they’re such an indulgence.
I have totally missed carne asada fries, I fell in love with them the first time I went to California (and was young enough to eat them all the time and not get insanely fat).
But they’ve been missing from the Memphis foodscape. Well, Elena’s has fixed that.
Elena’s a little hole in the wall place attached to a gas station on Summer Ave pretty much at the corner of Summer and Raleigh-Lagrange.
Everything there is good, but the carne asada fries are next-level good. They consist of French fries topped with steak, cheese, pico, guacamole, and sour cream. I added some of their excellent house made salsa to mine to give it a little heat.
This is the pinnacle of junk food. There is no pretense of health here. There is no counting calories. I don’t even want to know. Just pure, glorious junk food combining somewhat disparate elements in a way that makes them all work together like a weird fusion symphony.
If you guys can’t tell by now, I really, really like the carne asada fries.
My only small complaint is that they go HARD on the sour cream. I might try to get it on the side next time and apply with a little less gusto. But honestly, there’s not much to complain about here, just go get some. You will not be sorry.
