The best bang-for-your-buck burger in Memphis comes from an unlikely place. Chile Verde is a taco truck that’s located in the parking lot of the BP at Park and Mt. Moriah on the southwest corner of the intersection. They have some very good Mexican food; tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and the home made salsa selection is amazing.
But they have a bit of a “sleeper” on the menu: The cheeseburger. Their cheeseburger is way, WAY better than a cheeseburger from a taco truck has any right to be. When you see a cheeseburger at a taco truck you assume it’s an afterthought for kids and picky eaters. This is definitely not the case at Chile Verde. Their burger is every bit as good as their Mexican fare. You can also get them in increasingly absurd portions. The regular burger seems somewhere in the 4oz size. You can get a double, triple, or even quadruple. I always just go for the single, it’s plenty filling to me, and I don’t need any help being chubby.
For $5.99, you get a single cheeseburger and an order of crinkle cut fries. The fries have some kind of seasoning on them. I’m not exactly sure what it consists of, but there’s definitely salt, some chile powder, and some kind of citric acid going on.
The burger comes with a toasted bun, a whole slice of grilled onion, meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and their “Special Sauce”. I have no idea what’s in the special sauce, but I do know it’s delicious. I’m gonna shut up now and let the pictures do the talking.
