I’ve had the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses for a few months now and I LOVE them. The included charging case works well and the battery life is great. Which didn’t help me at all when I left work and left the charging case sitting on my desk.
I started looking online for another charging solution so I could charge them in multiple places. You can buy a charging case from Ray-Ban for $70 but it’s been consistently out of stock since I’ve owned the glasses.
There are a few other aftermarket charging solutions, but they’re pretty pricey at basically the same price as the OEM charging case which is made of leather and includes a battery so you can charge anywhere. I felt kinda ripped off paying the same amount of money for a 3D printed charger.
I finally noticed the Tusita charging stand on Amazon. It seems to check all the boxes. It’s a nicer looking and sturdier design than the 3D printed ones and it’s currently under $20, so you could buy three of them for the price of one OEM charging case and have money left over. I decided to give it a shot and ordered. It took a couple of weeks to arrive, but I’m pretty happy with what (finally) showed up.
The charger is made of a kind of soft touch plastic with a grippy rubber pad on the bottom to keep it from scooting around. My model number 4008 Wayfarer Large glasses fit on it perfectly, and as far as I can tell, it charges at the same rate as the OEM case and stops charging when the battery is full.
My only issue with the stand is the charger. The stand has a USB C port on it, and the package includes a USB C to USB A cable. It works fine, and it’s not the end of the world for a cheap and otherwise functional charger, but the USB C port on the device doesn’t properly implement the USB C spec.
Do you have any cheap electronics that will work with a USB A to USB C cable, but not with a C to C cable? That’s because the manufacturer didn’t properly implement the USB C spec and is basically just using the old Micro USB spec with a USB C plug on it. Again, not a huge deal on a $20 charging stand that you will likely plug in once and just leave it there for years, but it’s still annoying that I can’t just use an existing USB C cable on my desk to power it.
Aside from that, I’m pretty happy. Enough so that I went ahead and ordered another one so I can put one on my desk at home and one on my desk at work and just leave the charging case in my bag for when I’m out of the house or office.
