I love the Rode VideoMicro, it’s a fantastic little microphone for the money. MUCH better sound quality than built-in mics and it won’t break the bank. It’s my go-to mic for the Sony ZV-1. (I set the camera to Audio Level 15, that seems to be the best overall for me.)
The Rode VIdeoMicro also comes with a REALLY good windscreen. In fact, that’s kinda my issue. It’s TOO GOOD for most situations. It’s total overkill for anything except for very windy weather.
So I checked around on amazon and took a chance on some no-name brand because it looked like exactly what I wanted. It’s called the “SUNMON VideoMicro WindScreen Foam Cover…” it goes on from there. I’ll just make that a link. It showed up today, and to my surprise, came in a pack of two. Cool! So far it’s MUCH better for the situations I find myself usually shooting in. Better than no filter at all without being significantly larger. I’m definitely keeping the Rode deadcat in my bag for when I need to shoot outside in high wind, but I feel like this is a much more manageable windscreen for indoor, outdoor in low or no wind, etc.
Like I said, I just got it today, so I have no clue as to longevity, but it should be totally fine. It’s a piece of foam, there’s not a whole lot that can go wrong with it. I’ll update this post if anything DOES go wrong though.
